Your essay must be a minimum of 700 words from introduction to conclusion. Your Works Cited page does not count as part of your word count. You are free to write more words than 700, but you should not exceed 2000 words. Your writing will be judged on quality, not quantity of words once the minimum length has been reached.
You are writing an argumentative essay. This means taking a clear position on your topic, either in favour or against. DO NOT write “advantages and disadvantages”. Either you think [insert your topic here] is good, or you think it is bad.
Be sure to include opposing arguments in your essay. Clearly introduce them as someone else’s ideas using distancing phrases like: “Some people support X because…..” or “Supporters of X argue that……”
Then respond to opposing arguments with a rebuttal. Introduce your rebuttal clearly by saying something like: “The problem with this argument is….” Or “this may be true, however…..”
Be sure to cite all information you have read at the point that you mention it in your essay using brackets, and with full citation on the Works Cited page.
